About
Hi! I’m Terry McGinn, authoress extraordinaire of this site.I was born Friday, June 3, 1977 in Kingston, Ontario – more specifically Kingston General Hospital (if you’re keeping score, which would be weird). I have two parents, one younger sister, one each step-siblings, twenty-one aunt and uncles, at least as many first cousins and family members totaling over 300 living within 45km of me. Family is important.
I grew up in the former Kingston Township and on Amherst Island; I attended Algonquin College in the Library & Information Science program – yes, I am just that cool. When I attended Algonquin the program was four years long.
This is a few things have done, a lesson in shortformedness:
- Youth advocacy, with emphasis on issues facing queer youth
- Affliations: EGALE, ALTGBO, Pink Triangle Services, the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa-Carleton, the Ottawa Community Police Liaison Committee, among others
- Regular “appearances” on Carleton University’s CKCU radio station; 1997 through 2000
- Interviews by newspapers and TV appearances (10% QTV, etc)
- Attended, in 1998, a United Nations sponsored, WUSC-hosted, youth workshop which provided Canada’s ministers responsible for youth with a “snapshot of issues facing Canada’s youth”
- Helped train school resource officers in three municipalities on ways to interact with queer youth
- Spoken in public schools on the issue of safer sex and youth-target crimes
- “Starred” in a Youth Services Bureau production aimed at improving awareness of sexually transmitted diseases and safer sex
- Been Canada’s second-most-popular webcam girl (by site traffic); 1998 through 2000
- General Manager of Ottawa’s oldest local charity, Ottawa Neighbourhood Services – age 22
- Office Manager for Dr. J.W. Buckley, gynecologist extraordinaire – position taken on a “sink or swim” basis; I swam
- Learned to spell laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy without cheating
About My Name:
Although the name Terry creates an active mind and a restless urge to explore new ideas, we emphasize that it causes a restless intensity that defies relaxation. The name Terry gives you a strongly independent and highly creative nature, with drive and ambition to have experiences and accomplish things out of the ordinary. You can work intently at whatever is new and holds your interest at the moment, but your interest wanes quickly when drudgery and monotony set in. Obstacles to your progress or restrictions on your freedom to act create a sense of frustration which may cause you to feel resentful and even rebellious. You can then become intolerant of others, and caustic and belittling in your expression, thereby imposing stress on your personal relationships.
